Foundry Networks' ServerIron Switch provides Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
and enterprises with high performance Layer 4-7 application enabled switching that
improves the availability, performance and scalability of Internet services such as
content publishing, web hosting and e-commerce.
ServerIron includes Foundry Networks' Internet IronWare, an extensive suite of
load balancing and cache switching features that can be deployed concurrently for maximum
flexibility and investment protection.
Unlike other solutions that rely upon specialized vendor and operating system dependent
server-based software, ServerIron is switch and protocol based. This ensures compatibility
with all major server vendors and operating systems. No special server agent software is
required. As a switch based platform, ServerIron also provides higher performance, port
density, scalable capacity and multiple levels of redundancy.
ServerIron offers 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps connectivity to servers. Server connections can
be configured as trunks for greater bandwidth and redundancy. The ServerIron base unit
includes 8, 16 or 24 10/100 Mbps ports that automatically sense and adjust to the speed of
attached devices. One or two Gigabit Ethernet ports are available in 1000BaseSX multi-mode
and 1000BaseLX single-mode.
Users that require high-density Gigabit Ethernet connectivity can easily upgrade
Foundry's award-winning TurboIron/8 switch with Internet IronWare to provide full Layer
4-7 capabilities. The TurboIron/8 offers a combi-nation of eight 1000BaseSX or 1000BaseLX
ports.
